NCAVP learns of the bullying-related suicide of gay Michigan youth, Josh Pacheco

The National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP) has learned of the bulling-related death of 17- year old Josh Pacheco of Fenton, Michigan. Josh’s parents have been vocal about linking his death to anti-gay bullying that he experienced both inside and outside of school.

NCAVP is working with Equality Michigan, an NCAVP member organization in Detroit, to offer our assistance with their efforts to support the community during this difficult time. Equality Michigan’s statement on Josh’s death can be read here.

NCAVP Endorses Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month; Calls for End to LGBTQH Intimate Partner Violence

This October, The National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP) stands in solidarity with survivors and victims of intimate partner violence (IPV) in commemorating the 25th annual Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month. During this month, NCAVP raises awareness about this form of violence within and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and HIV-affected (LGBTQH) communities and calls for an end to intimate partner violence.

Report shows highest homicide rate ever recorded

  • Gay men disproportionately victims of homicide in 2011
  • 19 intimate partner violence homicides of LGBTQ and HIV-affected people documented; the highest yearly total ever recorded and more than three times the number documented in 2010
  • LGBTQH people under 30 more likely to experience violence
  • More LGBTQH survivors were denied access to shelter in 2011 than in 2010

NCAVP learns of the murder of a gender non-conforming person in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Eleven known transgender or gender non-conforming people murdered in the United States so far this year

Today, the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP) learned of the fatal shooting of an unidentified gender non-conforming (GNC) person in the Frankford section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. NCAVP is working with Equality Philadelphia to determine if there was an anti-LGBTQH motive in this shooting.

NCAVP learns of the murder of Kendall L. Hampton in Cincinnati, Ohio; Nine known transgender/gender non-conforming people murdered in the United States so far this year

This week, the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP) learned of the fatal shooting of a gender non-conforming (GNC) person identified as Kendall L. Hampton, 26 years old, who was reportedly engaged in sex work in Cincinnati, Ohio. NCAVP has been working with our member organization in Ohio, Buckeye Region Anti-Violence Organization, (BRAVO) to determine if there was an anti-LGBTQH and/or anti-sex work motive in this homicide.
